Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï Ribbon-Cutting Marks Vibrant New Era

51³Ô¹Ï is proud to announce the ribbon-cutting for Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï, a transformative new hub at the heart of campus, on Saturday, September 13, at 4 p.m. The celebration will also include the unveiling of a new bronze Pacer statue, the university’s iconic mascot, and the new location of the University’s award-winning 51³Ô¹Ï student-run radio station WVMW 91.7 (VMFM) to the Learning Commons.
Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï
Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï reimagines the central campus experience, blending outdoor gathering spaces with areas for study, conversation, and connection. The space, thoughtfully designed by 51³Ô¹Ï students, encourages students to meet, collaborate, and enjoy the energy of campus life together. With its inviting design, Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï captures the spirit of the community—where learning extends beyond the classroom, friendships take root, and the campus itself inspires engagement.
“Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï embodies the spirit of 51³Ô¹Ï—welcoming, dynamic, and alive with the energy of students coming together,” said 51³Ô¹Ï President Lisa Lori. “It is more than a beautiful addition to our campus—it is a space that invites collaboration, encourages new friendships, and enriches the student experience in ways that reflect the very best of who we are as a community.”
Bronze Pacer Statue Unveiling
At the entrance of Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï stands a striking bronze statue of the 51³Ô¹Ï Pacer, a galloping horse that has symbolized the university’s athletic teams and spirit for decades. The statue reflects strength, motion, and determination—qualities that define 51³Ô¹Ï students and the university community. Positioned at the gateway to Main Street, the Pacer embodies vitality, resilience, and forward momentum, welcoming all who enter to a vibrant, connected campus experience.
New Location for Student-Run Radio Station - WVMW
After celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, 51³Ô¹Ï’s student-run radio station WVMW is moving to a more central location on the first floor of the Learning Commons. Previously in a less visible location, the new student-designed station will now infuse the hub of study, collaboration, and social activity with music, campus news, and student-led programming. Its presence will contribute to the energy of Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï, creating a dynamic soundtrack for campus life.
“By bringing WVMW to the center of campus, we’re amplifying student voices and the vibrant spirit of Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï,” said President Lori.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will also showcase a student-designed relaxation area, providing spaces for reflection, study, and informal gatherings, completing the vision of Main Street 51³Ô¹Ï as a lively, welcoming, and inspiring place for all students.
